Observations
Playa Cantarriján is a nudist beach, so families with young children should take this into consideration. Photography enthusiasts will find this walk interesting, so bring your camera. There is a very good chance of spotting mountain goats; some chance of spotting falcons, kestrels or eagles.

The Torre Caleta beach and coastal walk is a lovely little walk in the Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Park and Marine Reserve which lies on a fringe of coastline between the village of Maro and the town of La Herradura in Granada. The walk is approximately 5 hours long, but can be extended up to 6 hours. There are lots of stops for short breaks, sightseeing, and wonderful scenic photography.

This circular walk takes us through a small section of the Park and through a lovely variety of environments including unspoiled, undeveloped, secluded beaches and coves; rugged promontories and cliffs from which there can often be seen large schools of fish in the crystal clear waters below; a short visit to the historic relic of Torre Caleta – a 16thC coastal watch tower; a high ridge walk offering spectacular views; an excellent opportunity to see the iconic Iberian ibex (mountain goat); and of course, a stop for lunch at probably one of the most hip beaches on this side of the Malaga coast at a very chilled-out beachside chiringuito (Andalucian beach restaurant) at Playa Cantarriján. I have negotiated a special menu and price with the proprietor of the restaurant at a cost of €15 per person. This includes a salad, a main course and a drink. Bread, water, dessert and coffee not included. Lunch at the restaurant is optional.

To make the very most of all that this wonderful walk has to offer, you are invited to bring your swimsuit and towel (weather permitting) for a highly recommended dip in the sea to refresh yourself from the heat and rigours of coastal Mediterranean walking before settling down to enjoy your beachside lunch.

On this walk there is a moderate risk of vertigo. You should also wear good footwear such as a good pair of trainers/sports shoes or walking boots if you have, suncream, hat, sunglasses, at least 1.5 litres of water and snacks if you so wish.
