Guided Day Walks and Hikes

On this page you will find the three different categories of walks and hikes that I guide and lead on a regular weekly basis. I regularly lead limited sized groups of ramblers, walkers and hikers of widely varying abilities, ages and fitness levels, through the countryside, hills, mountains and high sierras around Nerja, Frigiliana, Maro and Acebuchal.

Choose from the four categories of walks, hikes and treks that I offer according to your walking or hiking preference and fitness level:

  • Easy Walks and Rambles  –  short, gentle, easy strolls through the flat, open countryside and lowland coastal areas immediately around Nerja and Maro.
  • Moderate Walks and Hikes  –  moderate walks and hikes in the foothills and lower mountain valleys around Nerja, Frigiliana, Maro and Acebuchal.
  • Challenging Hikes  –  long, hard, invigorating, full-day hikes in the foothills and lower/middle mountain valleys, occasionally in isolated areas.
  • Adventure Treks  – extremely challenging and demanding full-day treks in a multitude of mountain environments in exceptionally isolated mountain territory.

If you are not a regular walker or hiker, or are not used to walking in the very dry and hot conditions that can be found in the Axarquía region and Andalucía between the months of May – September, but would like to join me on some of my walks or hikes, please discuss this with me so that I can advise you on the correct approach that you should take. As a consequence of the extreme climate, especially during the hotter months, my general advice would be for you to choose a walking or hiking category that is easier than your perceived level of fitness, endurance and ability. In my opinion, this would be the safer and more practical approach for your very first walk or hike as you can always “step up” a category once you have been able to establish your level of fitness and endurance in view of the local conditions. This “safer” approach is especially important in the hotter months, when the climatic conditions can be very challenging and can diminish your endurance and strength very quickly if you are not used to it.

On the other hand, winter walking during the period October – April is much more pleasant and comfortable, and makes for very enjoyable walking indeed. The weather in the Axarquía region during the winter walking period is very similar to the conditions typically found in northern European countries during the late spring and summer. Having said that, the transitionary months of October/November and March/April can be two of the most peculiar periods. Sometimes it is still necessary during these particular periods to take sensible precautions with regard to the sun and the heat, when the weather can sometimes be unusually fickle.

Apart from the four categories of walks and hikes listed above, I also lead walking wildlife safaris into very specific areas of the Natural Park where the chances of spotting specific wildlife is greatly increased. This option is available by advanced booking and limited to a maximum group size of 12 persons.
